Why the Cell Membranes in Your Body Should Be More Like PlayDoh Than its Container

Published by Scott Danek

Admit it, when you were a kid you couldn’t wait to crack open that plastic jar and get to the soft, pliable wonderment that was inside, right?!  Who knew that even at that young age you knew just a little about cell health, even if it was on an innate, subconscious level?!

Don’t worry, this won’t be like listening to Charlie Brown’s mom ‘Wah, whah. . .wah, whah, wah, whah. . .’  It will however be a primer for some of the most important information you can know about one of the tiniest of all things that make us who we are, the human cell.

The key is you want your cell membrane to be soft not hard.  Think the inside of a bagel, not the outside.  Why is this?  Cells perform their jobs better when their membranes are in good health.  When they can’t it can lead to any number of bad outcomes, including various illnesses, skin problems, and obesity.

Great, but what are some things you can do to help your cell maintain the permeable membranes they need to do their job in keeping you healthy?  First, eat more fat.  OK, that wasn’t a direct order to go buy a pint of ice cream each night on your way home from work.  It was to inspire you to eat the RIGHT KIND of fat.  If you can do this you’ll be ahead of most other people, as 95% of Americans are deficient in their Omega-3 fatty acids.  Olives, walnuts, almond butter, and extra virgin olive oil just to name a few.

Also, drink lots of water.  Cells are surrounded by water, and contain water, your brain is mostly water, even your bones are 25% water.  Depriving your body and cells of the proper hydration is just asking for trouble, and over time can lead to serious health problems.

There are lots of other ways you can help your cells stay healthy, some of which we’ll discuss on October 9th.  Make sure your cells are healthy and happy by RSVP-ing by clicking here today.
